Trasierra Region Tierras de Granadilla
Tierras de Granadilla presents a wide range of activities for all audiences, especially attractive in the summer season around the Gabriel y Galán reservoir, such as aquatic activities (boat routes, paddle surfing, wakeboarding, among others). Other activities that you can do in this environment are to enter the Historical-Artistic complex of Granadilla (the third best walled town in Spain) and climbing the Castillo Tower is a must. If you like heights, and want to see this area from a bird’s eye view, we offer you two alternatives. The first of them is to go up to the new Mirador del Castillo in Cabezabellosa, which offers a panoramic view of the entire region and a spectacular sunset. The second, for the most daring, a paragliding flight from Pico Pitolero also located in this town and landing in our pasture ‘El Ejido’.
Roman City of Caparra
Cáparra was, due to its excellent strategic location, the main communications hub between Emerita Augusta (Mérida) and Artúrica Augusta (Astorga) that form the Vía de la Plata. In short, it is one of the preferred Roman municipalities in Lusitania, which is attested to by the numerous archaeological remains that are still preserved, such as the forum or the thermal baths, but what attracts everyone’s attention is the spectacular Cáparra arch from the 1st century AD, a quadrifront structure that you will not find in the rest of the Iberian Peninsula. An attraction of this place is its surroundings dominated by extensive pastures of mainly holm oaks. A flat valley ideal for pedaling quietly surrounded by endless nature or walking while chirping at the large number of birds that surround us. A spectacle of colors in spring.
Jerte Valley
Having visited the castle viewpoint in Cabezabellosa, we head towards El Torno and we can visit the Mirador de la Memoria in the Jerte Valley, located in the town of El Torno. Highlight the immense views towards the Valley and the Sierra de Tormantos and the melancholic sculptures that we find there dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Spanish Civil War. A must-see in the area is the Garganta de los Infiernos, a natural reserve where you can see numerous waterfalls and waterfalls, as well as the giant kettles known as ‘Los Pilones’.
Ambroz Valley
The Ambroz Valley is located just 10 minutes by car from our house, with Hervás being its epicenter. There you can move through one of the best preserved Jewish neighborhoods, declared a Historical-Artistic Site since 1969 and belonging to the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain. Lovers of the world of motors will also find their attraction in Hervás, being able to visit the Motorcycle and Classic Car Museum, with a valuable collection to admire. After visiting Hervás you can take a dip in one of the many natural pools that this region houses, such as the “Garganta Ancha” of Casas del Monte, the natural pool of Segura de Toro and other small ones hidden between gorges that come down from the mountains, small yes, but with all the comforts of a natural pool. Las Hurdes Region
From natural pools we move to rivers with peculiar and irregular paths. The most famous is located in Las Hurdes and is known as ‘Meandro del Melero’. We can reach it both on foot and by vehicle since it is completely accessible. It is advisable to visit in spring since in other periods of the year its flow is considerably reduced. Thanks to a new construction, the Mirador is accessible to all people with reduced mobility. Note that at 12 min. From the house there is a very little-known meander and the magnificent views of the olive grove and the Extremaduran pasture are worth highlighting. We will inform you upon arrival where to find it and even navigate the two meanders by canoe.
