Another year the theater arrives in Cáparra, on August 8 it will take the stage of The Gift of Zeus, while on the 9th The Titans will be performed. The next day, on August 10, the public will be able to enjoy The Comedy
of Errors and, on August 11, The Assembly Members will put the culmination of this year’s Cáparra extension.

The Mérida International Classical Theater Festival, in 2017, established its fourth official headquarters in the ancient Roman city of Cáparra, thus becoming the first stage of the event in the province of Cáceres. Together with the existing venues in Medellín, Regina and Madrid, this extension adds to the rich theatrical tradition of the region.
Near the city of Plasencia, in the municipality of Oliva, is the captivating site of Cáparra. This city, under the domination of Rome, became an important communications center on the north-south axis between Augusta Emerita (Mérida) and Asturica Augusta (Astorga), forming part of the famous Vía de la Plata. Its strategic location ensured a prominent place among the Roman municipalities of Lusitania, which promoted its development and progressive monumentalization, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological remains that still remain.
Cáparra was completely walled and had three access gates located in the southeast, east and west. Two main roads, the cardo and the decumanus, structured the city. In the center of the site is the iconic Arco de Cáparra, an undisputed symbol of the city and the place where the various scheduled theatrical works will take place.
